7 RIVERS LGBTQ CONNECTION: THE CENTER STANDS IN OPPOSITION OF PRESIDENT TRUMP’S RESTRICTIONS ON TRANSGENDER RIGHTS

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin – Donald Trump's executive order to restrict gender markers on federal documents and restricting access to gender affirming health care for those under 19 years old are both harmful to our LGBTQ+ community.

Restricting gender marker changes to reflect sex assigned at birth and refusing to acknowledge a third gender, X, disregards transgender, nonbinary, and intersex people. Refusing to acknowledge more than two genders does not change the fact more genders exist and will continue to exist. This order puts our transgender, intersex, and nonbinary community at risk.

Trump signed an executive order yesterday regarding restricting gender affirming health care for those under 19 years old. Gender affirming care has proved to be lifesaving care, with the majority of youth gender-affirming care being reversible. Removing such healthcare can, and will, impact youths' mental health negatively.
